What is ozone treatment, and is it approved?
Ozone is a form of oxygen that destroys bacteria and viruses on contact. Instead of burning medical waste or steaming it in an autoclave, ozone treatment shreds it and sterilizes it with ozone. Our ozone process is approved by the State of Alabama, and we are the first company in Alabama approved to use it. Treatment will run at our Kingston facility in Birmingham.
Is Harvest operating today?
Yes. Harvest Solutions collects medical waste for more than 100 healthcare facilities in Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi, and Texas as an ADEM-permitted medical waste transporter (TRN112125-0101). Our ozone treatment facility in Birmingham is approved by the State of Alabama.
How is ozone different from incineration and autoclaving?
Incineration burns waste, which creates air emissions and ash that needs its own disposal. Autoclaving sterilizes waste with high-pressure steam, which takes heat, water, and energy, and leaves dirty wastewater that has to be drained off. Ozone treatment shreds the waste and sterilizes it with ozone: no combustion, no steam, no ash. The ozone is generated inside the unit on demand and breaks back down into ordinary oxygen.
Do you recycle medical waste?
Some of it, yes: hospitals in seven states already partner with us on single-use plastic solutions. Regulated medical waste (red bag) is next. University research partners are working with us on what it can become.
Does Harvest charge fuel surcharges or hidden fees?
Not unless you ask us to. Harvest bills a single per-container rate rather than a base rate plus surcharges. What you're quoted is what you're billed.
Why is my current bill higher than the rate I was quoted?
Most national contracts quote a low base rate and then add fuel, environmental, energy, and administrative fees, and lock you into long auto-renewing terms. Harvest's pricing exists to remove that gap: one per-container rate, stated up front.
What types of medical waste does Harvest handle?
Regulated medical waste, including sharps and biohazardous soft waste (gauze, gloves, gowns, tubing), non-hazardous pharmaceutical waste, and secure document shredding. For other specialty streams, like hazardous RCRA pharmaceutical waste, controlled substances, bulk chemotherapy, and radioactive or pathological waste, we'll map what you generate and how each is handled.
Is Harvest a permitted transporter, and can I see the paperwork?
Yes. Harvest Solutions is an ADEM-permitted medical waste transporter (TRN112125-0101), and its ozone treatment process is approved by the State of Alabama and the City of Birmingham. Permit copies and a certificate of insurance are available on request.
What documentation do I get after a pickup?
You will receive a manifest for every medical waste pickup and a certificate of destruction for every shredding job. It all lives in our online client portal with your invoices, so you can pull a record any time instead of digging through a file cabinet. If your compliance program needs a specific form or retention period, tell us and we'll match it.
Do you help with compliance?
Yes. We offer over 50 compliance courses for practices and hospitals, including OSHA, HIPAA, and bloodborne pathogens. They run through the same online client portal as your pickup records and invoices. One vendor for medical waste, shredding, and compliance.
Do you take controlled substances and hazardous RCRA pharmaceutical waste?
Yes. Both are destroyed at a licensed facility, with the DEA paperwork handled and a certificate of destruction for your records. Tell us what your facility generates and we'll set up the right containers.
Where do you provide service?
We currently serve healthcare facilities across the South, including Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi, and Texas, and are actively expanding across the nation. Our treatment facility is in Birmingham, and hospitals in seven states already partner with us on single-use plastic solutions.
How do I switch from my current provider?
Request a quote. We give you one flat per-container rate. We check your contract's cancellation window and coordinate the transition so there's no gap in service.
